Places to see near Rome: Lavinium
The Lavinium Archaeological Museum was founded in 2005 in Pomezia, near the beautiful village of Pratica di Mare.
It is certainly one of the most beautiful places to see near Rome. The route begins with an exhibition entitled “Hic Domus Aeneae“, a section entirely dedicated to the mythological figure of Aeneas, founder of Lavinium, and to all the stages of his journey, during the escape from Troy, to the landing on the Lazio coast.
A journey through terracotta finds, funerary objects and various fabrics, illustrated by an accompanying video.
Following this, a faithful three-dimensional reconstruction of a ship from the Bronze Age, the era of Aeneas, in fact.

The preparation of the Museum intertwines multimedia of video and 3d illustrations with traditional exhibition; this aspect makes it a place with an extremely varied target.
For example, the talking statues are animated through the video, as happens in the next room, Civitas Religiosa, where the history of the Santuario degli Altari, one of the most sacred sites of ancient Lazio, is digitally illustrated.
The virtual figure of a priest showing visitors the ritual before the God of the altars, linked to Heroon of Aeneas, on display in the last room and its mysterious disappearance, after conflict against Mezentius.
Finally, Mezentius is the Trojan hero to whom the last exhibition of the Museum was dedicated, where, with an engaging video, the hopeful hero addressed his father Anchise directly.

How the Museum is structured
The prestigious finds preserved in the Museum are mainly of a religious type, a feature that characterised the city of Pomezia in ancient times, such as the Sanctuaries of Minerva, of the historical period between the 10th century BC and the Roman age, with objects found in the Sanctuary of the thirteen altars and the ritual vases, such as the famous cup of the Dioscuri, the 6th century.
The Museum is divided into 5 thematic rooms: Tritonia Virgo, Mundus Muliebris, Hic Domus Aeneae, Civitas Religiosa, Aeneas Indiges, and it organises guided tours, conferences and exhibitions. The Museum of Lavinium is one of the places worth mentioning among the places to see near Rome.
